Here are a few hints that will help with saving you money in the kitchen:
- Don't use paper or plastic plates. You end up paying a lot more than if you bought even a very cheap set of unbreakable dishes (eg. Corelle).
- Don't use your dishwasher. Heating water for a dishwasher uses a lot of energy, because dishwashers use extremely hot water. You're better off to handwash your dishes.
- Don't use liquid hand soap. You're paying extra for the water in the container. Buy bar soap instead.
- Keep your freezer full: it uses much less energy that way. If you don't have enough stuff to pack your freezer full, you should sell your freezer. (Alternately, you can pack your freezer full of ice, and throw out the ice as needed.)
- Keep your your refrigerator as empty as possible. A refrigerator works differently than a freezer &mdash the air inside a refrigerator needs to circulate to stay cold. Every day (or at least every other day) check your refrigerator to see what you can throw out. After all, there is usually lots of "expired" stuff in any fridge.
Disclaimer: while these hints are the result of years of experience and/or lots of research, in the end they are just my personal opinion. If you try something I suggest and it doesn't work, please don't sue me &mdash I guarantee nothing. Best of luck!
